Featured Seller: Veroque

Hey there, please welcome Vered of Veroque on Etsy. She was nominated winner in the Product Spotlight for the month of August.  You'll get a chance to learn a little about the artisan behind these lovely handmade creations.

First off, tell us a little about yourself! My name is Vered, I am the mother of two adorable children and wife to a wonderful friend.  I live in Israel in a small rural community. We have a wonderful view and the sunsets are gorgeous, especially in the Autumn.

How did you start creating your artwork, and how long have you been doing it? I’m not one of those people who always knew from the very first moment that creativity was a inseparable part of their essence. Mine was a journey of self discovery which coincided with the birth of my daughter, my first born. Before that, I was fortunate enough to have traveled around the world (in the Far East, I visited Japan, Vietnam, China and Thailand; in South America, I visited Guatemala, Mexico and Belize). I completed my studies at the university and I started to work as a HR manager. At that time, the company for which I worked was changing and shortly after that, it closed and I stopped working.

After my daughter was born (seven years ago), I started creating with various different artistic disciplines and when by chance I tried jewelry, I discovered that there I found “true love” and so I’ve been making jewelry ever since. That was a great period in my artistic life so I decided to combine motherhood and creativity and that combination has been very successful for me, even after my son joined the voyage two and half years later. We all benefit from this arrangement and I feel as if it’s a great privilege to be able to wake up in the morning and do what I love the best.

Where do you get your inspiration from? From my perspective, when I’m creating, I’m in the most beautiful place that I can be, and that’s a great blessing. My entire family is a big part of the process and my creations and many of my ideas and inspirations are drawn from my children. My husband and I often go to visit exhibitions and museums and I feel that many of my ideas come to me after these visits.

Outside of crafting what else do you enjoy doing?  I love to read and I try to dedicate time to it every day. I love to see the world and get to know new cultures and new people.

Is there anything else you would like to share? My hidden passion is to do beaded embroidery on cloth. I hope that it will happen one day. I love to try different materials and styles, but working with small beads is the greatest therapy that I have. To take a thin needle and to pass it through tiny beads that slowly form a pattern is an enormous satisfaction for me.

Wow, I hope you enjoyed this lovely interview as much as I did.

August Product Spotlight Winner Announced!

Hello there, I hope you had a lovely weekend! Firstly, I would like to apologize for the long silence.  I’ve been so busy with work and other business related projects.  However, I’m trying to get back into blogging mode slowly but surely.:)

I would like to announce the Product Spotlight winner for the month of August.  We did not have as many spotlight responses in the month August as I had hoped, so this means Vered of Veroque on Etsy automatically takes the winners spot. She will have the opportunity to be featured on my blog this month. We'll get a chance to know a little about the artisan behind Veroque.

Stay Tuned!

P.S. If you missed her previous Spotlight. Go here and be sure to checkout the wonderful blog comments she received!

Featured Seller: RoseAndRaven

Hey there, please welcome Rachel of RoseAndRaven. She was nominated winner in the Product Spotlight for the month of July.  You'll get a chance to learn a little about the artisan behind these lovely creations.

First off, tell us a little about yourself! I'm married with two teenage sons and I live in Norfolk which is a beautiful county in the UK.
How did you start creating your artwork, and how long have you been doing it? I've been involved in the world of beads and jewellery making for several years now.  I started off making bits and pieces of jewellery which I used to sell on Ebay.

One day as I was browsing for beads I came across some gorgeous handmade glass beads.  I was so enthralled with these that I set about finding out all I could about how to make these fabulous little glass treasures.  I got myself a kiln, torch and lots of glass and set off on my lampwork beadmaking adventure.  I've been making glass beads for around five years now but I'm taking a break for while and concentrating on my jewellery making again.  I hope to create a range of lampwork jewellery soon.

What do you love most about your craft/business?
I love being surrounded by beads and shiny things!  I also love the freedom that being self employed brings although it can also be a bit stressful when sales are slow or you've lost your mojo!.  I love that I can get to create whenever I want!

What is your most treasured possession?  Hmmm..well my family and my little cat are the most treasured things I have in my life although they're not technically possessions.  I'm really not very materialistic so I don't have many 'things' as such.  As long as my loved ones are safe and well and I have my memories that's all I really need.
Where do you get your inspiration from?  My current range of jewellery is really inspired by nostalgia.  I love vintage advertisements and illustrations - I find the the soft muted colours really inspiring and evocative.  I was brought up around vintage stuff as my Dad was (and still is) an avid collector.

His collections ranged from postage stamps, coins, tea cards, cigarette cards, old advertising magazines, tin toys....too many to remember!!  I try to recreate a little of that nostalgia, romance and quirkiness in my pieces.

When I make my lampwork beads I tend to go with whatever comes.  Sometimes it's colour that inspires me and sometimes it may be an emotion.  I find melting glass is quite therapeutic in that respect.

Outside of crafting what
else do you enjoy doing?
I'm quite boring really!  I do actually find it quite difficult to switch off sometimes so I enjoy getting out in the countryside for walks to clear my head.
As we're only 20 miles or so away from the sea we often take a drive and have a wander around some of the lovely picturesque Norfolk coastal villages.
